Ebola Outbreak Awareness Education To Bordering Communities In The Districts Of Karagwe And Kyerwa

Following Ebola outbreak in the Countries of DRC and Uganda, marking the significant cases and deaths. RAPID Tanzania as the organization with the main objective on Preparedness and response in disasters including disease, by the support of Save the Children took an initiative to conduct the awareness campaign on Ebola outbreak preparedness and response to communities along the borders in Karagwe and Kyerwa Districts. Through collaboration with the Prime Minister's office （DMD/One Health）, Kagera Region and Karagwe and Kyerwa District Health experts, RAPID Tanzania conducted the awareness and education campaign on Ebola outbreak preparedness to 6 Villages in Karagwe and Kyerwa Districts Kagera region. The provided health initiatives on Ebola to village community members, were, meaning and history of Ebola viruses, types, prevention, transmissions infection prevention controls including safe hand washing, and distribution of IEC Materials for references as special hand-washing buckets. Six (6) Villages were reached during the campaign which were, Omukimeya, Chonyonyo and Rulalo in Karagwe District, Rwabwere, Iteera and Chanya in Kyerwa District. A total of 141 community members were reached during education exercises with the estimated indirect beneficiaries through participants take home massage of 20537 community members. More than 3500 IEC Materials were printed and distributed, including 12 buckets, for WASH and IPC purpose The initiative raised the importance of engaging community as the core intervention in Ebola outbreak preparedness and prevention. The engagements opened the request from the local authorities to request the expansion of the scope, extending to more villages and communities in the high-risk areas in Kagera
